Furnace problems
Still the most common heating system in local homes.
- No heat, or the furnace didn't come on
- Blowing cold air, or shutting off after a few minutes
- Clicking, banging, or burners that won't stay lit
Furnace, heat pump, or thermostat — one call gets the whole heating system checked. Same-day service is available most days from our Monroe shop, with NATE-certified technicians and the price in writing before any work starts.
Most homes around Monroe heat with a gas furnace, a heat pump, or both working together as a dual-fuel system — and every one of them takes its orders from the thermostat. A heating repair visit checks all three, so the fix lands on the real cause.
Still the most common heating system in local homes.
Electric heat pumps and dual-fuel systems.
Standard, programmable, and smart thermostats.
A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel, so it behaves differently from a furnace — and some of what worries homeowners in January is completely normal. The comparison below shows what's expected and what's worth a call.
Many local homes pair a heat pump with a gas furnace. On those dual-fuel systems we also check the switchover setting, because when it's set wrong the system burns more gas or electricity than it needs to.
A surprising number of no-heat calls start here. Before you call, make sure it's set to Heat, a few degrees above room temperature, with fresh batteries. If that doesn't do it, these are the thermostat problems we fix most often:
Upgrading instead? We install programmable and smart thermostats and set them up to match your furnace or heat pump.
Whether it's the furnace, the heat pump, or the thermostat, a heating repair visit follows the same four steps.
Yes. We repair gas furnaces, heat pumps, and the thermostats that run them, in Monroe and nearby communities. Many local homes pair a heat pump with a gas furnace, and we service both halves of that dual-fuel system on the same visit.
Some of that is normal. Air from a heat pump usually comes out around 85 to 100°F, while a gas furnace runs 120°F or hotter, so the vents feel cooler even when everything is working. If the air feels cool for long stretches, the outdoor unit is iced over, or Aux heat is on most of the time, schedule a repair.
Yes, within limits. In cold, damp weather the outdoor coil frosts over and the system runs a short defrost cycle, which can send up a puff of steam. Thick ice that doesn't clear after a defrost cycle, or an outdoor fan that won't spin, points to a problem.
Make sure it's set to Heat and a few degrees above room temperature, replace the batteries, and check the breaker and the power switch near the furnace or air handler. If the screen is blank or the system still won't start, call us — it may be the wiring, a failed control, or the thermostat itself.
Same-day service is available most days, and morning calls get the first open slots. Call us, and we'll confirm availability and provide an estimated arrival window. For no-heat emergencies, emergency service is available 24/7.
